PROGRAMMES

Secondary English

The ability to articulate opinions clearly in writing, on a variety of topics, is one of the prerequisites for excelling in English at Secondary levels. The Secondary English programme aims to enable students to become highly competent in using English effectively as a communication tool and to excel in school examinations.

The lessons have also been designed to:

  • Expose students to a variety of texts such as and learning tasks
  • Teach students to generate and clarify ideas to aid them in composition writing and oral conversations, a component that is not commonly enforced in schools
  • Help students learn and practise specific skills
  • Encourage students to ask questions and share opinions with their teachers and classmates

This programme hones the writing ability of students by stimulating them to think critically about important issues and imparting to them the art of expository and persuasive writing. Along with building up their vocabulary bank, students will also master important comprehension techniques and key strategies for reorganising information in order to write good summaries.

Armed with a repertoire of reading and writing skills, students will be well-equipped to do well in any English examination.
